INSPIRATIONS
"Hanging D" evokes a deep sense of nostalgia in me. The dense ticking reminds me of the passage of time, while the strong piano chords reflect different stages of life. The track brings to mind my phone's gallery, filled with countless memories that grow every day. It's a completely new situation in history – our great-grandfathers left us with just a few blurry photographs, whereas the data we generate today will become a substantial historical archive for future generations. This will allow posterity to travel back in time, swiftly browsing through our lives. Inspired by the track, I focused on this idea of data excavation and aimed to visualize the feeling of this process.
I usually create my videos through coding, and this time I wanted to build the scenes with rows of timelines – made up of simple shapes (pixels) that represent life events – constantly scrolling left across the screen. I used my own pictures and videos that are important to me (such as "Talking Heads" by Krzysztof Kieślowski, 1980). The retro aesthetic felt right, so I generated color palettes from screenshots of old computer games. The algorithmic transitions between scenes reference the evolution of image and video processing techniques like dithering, interlacing, caching, buffering, compression, and noise reduction. In my work, I'm fascinated by low-resolution effects and exploring the boundaries of legibility.
